Places, no matter how big or small, temporary or permanent, always have an impact on the people who live there. They create memories that become part of the lives of those who have lived there. Kou Kimura, a Japanese photographer, lived in the industrial estate of Amata Nakorn for a while at the invitation of an acquaintance. But Kimura did more than just live there. He recorded his memories through a photography project called Amata.

The photographs show a wide view of the vast estate, from shopping malls to housing estates, and zoom into the bedrooms of people with different hopes and dreams for their lives in this temporary place with the interesting but contradictory name “Amata,” which means “Eternity.” However, it seems that eternity is not something that the workers who live there experience.

The Amata project is divided into parts that are both broad and deep, including landscapes of the estate, portraits of the diverse workers in their rooms, simple Thai-Thai decorations that are interestingly portrayed, and follow-ups with some people to see how they are doing after returning to their hometowns. Photographs of the surrounding area, their personal lives, and many other things are collected into a work that covers the lives of the workers who must work in the industrial estate. The photographs of the spaces in Amata Nakorn and the photographs of the hometowns reflect each other, overlapping with the lives of those who have moved to work in a foreign land. They are like a movie that is played over and over again, showing the workers of all times and ages.

Kou Kimura was born and raised in an industrial town in Japan, he began his career as a photographer at a major publishing company in Tokyo before moving to Bangkok, Thailand. Kimura is also a member of gallery176 in Osaka, Japan. This exhibition marks his first solo show in Thailand.

พื้นที่มักมีอิทธิพลกับผู้คนเสมอ ไม่ว่าจะใหญ่หรือเล็ก ถาวรหรือชั่วคราว มันได้สร้างมวลความทรงจำ แล้วบรรจุเข้าไปไว้ในชีวิตของคนที่เคยอาศัยอยู่ในนั้น โค คิมูระ ช่างภาพชาวญี่ปุ่นเคยอาศัยอยู่ในพื้นที่ของเขตนิคม อุตสาหกรรมอมตะนครระยะเวลาหนึ่งตามคำชวนของคนที่รู้จัก ไม่ได้เพียงแค่เข้าไปอาศัยธรรมดาเท่านั้น แต่คิมูระได้เก็บบันทึกความทรงจำผ่านโครงการภาพถ่ายที่มีชื่อว่า “อมตะ”

ภาพต่างๆ ฉายให้เห็นดังภาพกว้างของพื้นที่อันกว้างใหญ่ของนิคมฯ มีทั้งห้างสรรพสินค้าไปจนถึง หมู่บ้านจัดสรร และลดขอบเขตลงมาถึงขนาดห้องพักของผู้คนมากหน้าหลายตา ที่มีความหวังความฝันต่างกันออกไป ในการใช้ชีวิตอยู่บนอาณาบริเวณชั่วคราวที่มีชื่ออันน่าสนใจหากแต่ย้อนแย้งว่า “อมตะ” มีความหมายว่า “ไม่มีวันตาย” ซึ่งดูเหมือนว่าความเป็นอมตะจะไม่ได้อยู่ข้างเหล่าคนงานที่อาศัยอยู่เท่าใดนัก

โครงการภาพถ่าย “อมตะ” แบ่งออกเป็นส่วนๆ ประกอบเข้าด้วยกันทั้งด้านกว้างและลึกลงไป ทั้งภาพทิวทัศน์ ของนิคมอุตสาหกรรมฯ ขยายลึกลงไปถึงภาพตัวบุคคลในห้องพักที่มีความหลากหลายของคนที่พักอาศัย รูปแบบการ ตกแต่งแบบเรียบง่ายสไตล์ “ไทยไทย” ที่ถูกถ่ายทอดออกมาอย่างน่าสนใจ รวมไปถึงการติดตามบางคนเพื่อกลับไป สำรวจถึงความเป็นไปหลังจากกลับไปยังบ้านเกิด ภาพถ่ายทิวทัศน์ระแวกบ้าน ชีวิตส่วนตัว และหลายๆ สิ่งที่รวบรวม เป็นชิ้นงานครอบคลุมความเป็นมาเป็นไปของชีวิตแรงงาน ที่ต้องทำงานให้นิคมอุตสาหกรรมแห่งนั้น ชุดภาพถ่ายของ พื้นที่ในอมตะนคร และชุดภาพถ่ายที่บ้านเกิดเหมือนภาพสะท้อนซึ่งกันและกัน, ทาบทับไปบนชีวิตของใครก็ตาม ที่ต้องย้ายถิ่นฐานเข้ามาทำงานยังต่างถิ่น เป็นดังภาพยนตร์ที่ถูกฉายซ้ำวนกลับไปมาของเหล่าผู้คนที่ใช้แรงงาน ในทุกยุคทุกสมัย

โค คิมูระ เกิดและเติบโตในเขตอุสาหกรรมของญี่ปุ่น ก่อนหน้านี้ทำงานเป็นช่างภาพให้กับบริษัทสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ ที่มีชื่อเสียงในกรุงโตเกียวก่อนย้ายถิ่นฐานมาทำงานในกรุงเทพฯ เขายังเป็นสมาชิกของแกลลอรี่ที่ชื่อ gallery176 ที่เมืองโอซาก้า นิทรรศการนี้เป็นงานแสดงเดี่ยวครั้งแรกของเขาในประเทศไทย
